CarbonAid® and Carbonmini™ are CO2 diffusers used for the prevention of air embolisms in surgical wounds.

Carbonmini™ is suitable for surgical wounds up to 8 cm in diameter, (e.g. in open-heart surgery on children or minimally invasive operations), and delivers a CO2 flow of 3 l/min.

CarbonAid® is suitable for complete sternotomy and delivers a CO2 flow of 10 l/min.

Both devices create a laminar flow, which is essential to avoid turbulence and mixing with the ambient area. This also applies when the sponge tip is wet.

By avoiding turbulence, the devices create a completely CO2-saturated atmosphere within the cavity.
The CO2, insufflated through these devices, creates a protective cushion and a continuous flow from inside the cavity that prevents microparticles from entering the wound. The risk of contamination by airborne particles is reduced by 80%.
The well-known bacteriostatic effect of CO2 also helps prevent post-operative infections, such as those caused by staphylococcus aureus.
Both devices are equipped with a highly efficient antibacterial filter and a long tube for connection to the CO2 diffuser.
